From Johannesburg

Take the N3 to Harrismith. Turn onto the N5 Bethlehem road and travel approximately 4km. Then turn left onto the R74 Bergville / R712 Phuthakitjaba road. Travel approx 9km and turn left onto the R74. Travel approx 20km and turn left at the Retief Pass / Retief Klip sign. These are National Monument signs and are fairly small. Travel 2km - this becomes a gravel road - then turn right onto the Retief Pass road. Drive for another 12km. For a section you will travel parallel to an old canal. Approximately 1km after the canal, turn right at the sign to Drakensberg Retreat. Pass the neighbours house, which is on the left, and continue through the gate directly ahead.

From Durban

Take the N3 to north of Estcourt. A few km after the Shell Ultra City turn left onto the R74 Bergville / Colenso road. Keep left and travel through Winterton and then Bergville and continue on the R74. Pass Little Switzerland and at the top of Oliviershoek Pass, Caterpillar and Catfish. Approximately 4km from there, turn right at the Retief Pass, Retief Klip National Monument signs. The signs are fairly small so check km traveled. Travel 2km - this becomes a gravel road - then turn right onto the Retief Pass road. Drive for another 12km. For a section you will travel parallel to an old canal. Approximately 1km after the canal, turn right at the sign to Drakensberg Retreat. Pass the neighbours house, which is on the left, and continue through the gate directly ahead.
