Exit Port Elizabeth on the N2 bound for Grahamstown. Bypass Grahamstown and continue on the R63 for about 3km to the Crossroads Junction. Then turn left bound for Fort Beaufort, enter Fort Beaufort then exit on the R63 bound for Alice 20km away. Exit Alice bound for King William’s Town (major upgrading of road system may direct you to detours. In any event, try to exit Alice by passing Fort Hare University on your left). Travel for 3km to the Hogsback and Cathcart turn-off. Turn left onto the R345 and travel about 30km through the Thyme Valley and begin the climb up the mountain pass to arrive in Hogsback. Travel a few meters and enter into Kings Lodge. It is the 3rd establishment on your left. The road is now tarred all the way.
From Natal or East London Airport
Take the N2 to King William’s Town. Turn left at the 2nd robot. Continue through the four-way stop and turn right into Buffalo Street at the next robot. Turn left at the 3rd robot. Continue past the Engen Service Station and turn right immediately when you pass the Engen Service Station and the little white bridge. (At the moment (August 2008), this is sadly signposted). Continue for about 57km. Turn right at the Cathcart Hogsback sign onto R345. Travel about 40km through the Thyme Valley and begin the climb up the mountain pass to arrive in Hogsback. Travel a few meters and enter into Kings Lodge. It is the 3rd establishment on your left. The road is now tarred all the way.
From Gauteng / Bloemfontein
From Bloemfontein, take the N6 to Aliwal North. Continue to Queenstown then to Cathcart. Just outside Cathcart, turn right at the Fort Beaufort sign. Continue for about 2km and turn left onto the gravel road at the Hogsback sign. Continue for about 50km. Turn left at the fork and continue on the main road through Hogsback for about 5km. Turn right into Kings Lodge.
