Location 2 Msasa Road, Oviston, Gariep Dam, Free State
Gariep Dam is situated 190km south of Bloemfontein just off the N1 highway. It is borders between the three provinces of the Free State, the Eastern Cape and the Northern Cape. Oviston Nature Reserve comprises a long, narrow strip of land, situated on the southern shoreline of Gariep Dam in the north eastern part of the Eastern Cape. The reserve extends from the Gariep Dam wall in the west to the Bethulie rail-road bridge in the east.
Travelling from Pretoria / Johannesburg via Bloemfontein:
Follow the N1, go past Bloemfontein, Edenburg, Trompsburg. Take Exit 7 (Springfontein) it reads R715 Bethulie from the N1, approximately 175km south of Bloemfontein. Keep straight on this road and go through the town of Bethulie. At the last stop in Bethulie, you will find a T-junction and at this T-junction turn right towards Burgersdorp / Venterstad. Cross over the big bridge and carry on for approximately 5km, the tarr road becomes a gravel road. Here you will turn right towards Venterstad and continue on a tarr road.
At the only stop street in Venterstad, you will turn right to Oviston. You will go through 2 x game gates and turn right after approximately 4km where the board shows Oviston. You will travel for approximately 8km and turn right at the Cafe on the corner of Msasa Road. We are situated opposite the cafe on the left at No. 2 Msasa Road, Oviston.
